During my time at university, I represented the University of Leicester in the Advocate of the Year competition, before joining the law society as a Mock Trial Officer. In this role, I co-created a lecture series for aspiring solicitors and barristers on criminal procedures not covered in the academic curriculum, and subsequently ran competitions in Mock Trials, Pleas in Mitigation and Bail Applications across the law cohort. I was also a legal researcher in the Lawyers without Borders pro bono clinic, and placed third in the National Law Student Triathlon.
One of my favourite parts of training is being able to give back to the firm, and have drafted the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Trainee Guide, the Trainee Solicitor Training Plan and Development Record, and the firm's new Central Register of Trusts. I have played a key role in creating and leading the TSP Trainees Support Programme, a trainee-led charity initiative that aims to nurture vital soft skills for a career in law while also making a positive impact on the wider community.
Outside of work, I am actively involved in both charity and community support programmes; I am a Dementia Friend and volunteer my time on the Action Against Medical Accidents (AvMA) helpline, which provides legal and practical information and signposting to people affected by medical accidents. I am also passionate about encouraging education and skill development. I have been an English and Maths tutor for many years, and offer support to low-income students (from KS1 to GCSE) where possible. I am also an established freelance editor, and I have had the opportunity to participate in various panels on the subject.
