Thompson Smith and Puxon Honoured as Compassionate Champion as part of Compassionate City initiative
Thompson Smith and Puxon is proud to announce its successful nomination as a Compassionate Champion, recognition that celebrates our contributions to the Compassionate Colchester initiative.
Earlier this year, Colchester was awarded the first-ever Compassionate City status in the East of England. This credit, bestowed by the Compassionate Communities UK charity highlights the collective efforts of local groups, businesses and individuals in making kindness and compassion a cornerstone of the city's identity.
Thompson Smith and Puxon has been awarded ‘Compassionate Champion’ status, in recognition of its dedication to providing a supportive workplace for staff and delivering legal services to the community with empathy and understanding as part of a supportive framework of other organisations helping individuals navigating life’s most challenging moments through serious illness and loss. The Compassionate City initiative aligns closely with TSP’s values and we are honoured to stand among the businesses, individuals and organisations recognised for making a positive difference.
One way in which we do this is as members of the Colchester Dementia Friendly Community. By working to become Dementia Friendly, we're committed to making our workplace and services as accessible as possible for all clients, including those living with Dementia, for example, by ensuring all our meetings take place on the ground floor, by providing clear signage and simple layouts throughout our offices and by offering flexible meeting options including home and hospital visits at all times of day and for as long as required. Little steps like this help reduce our client’s stress and anxiety. By making these changes, we aim to provide compassionate and inclusive legal services to all.
It is hoped that the introduction of the 2024 Compassionate Charter for Colchester will further invigorate this community-driven movement, helping individuals to feel empowered to assist one another through life’s toughest challenges.
Specialist Clinical Negligence Solicitor, Kim Huggins, is representing TSP in this initiative. Compassion is a fundamental element of her role and she understands first-hand the vital role that this quality plays to client service and community wellbeing.
Sean Stuttaford, Chief Executive Officer at Thompson Smith and Puxon commented: “Having roots in the local community that reach back to 1879, at Thompson Smith and Puxon we are proud to be a Compassionate City Champion. Colchester, now nationally recognized as the first Compassionate City in the East of England, inspires kindness and empathy for those facing life’s toughest moments. The fact that we have been recognised as a ‘Compassionate Champion’ reflects our commitment to fostering a compassionate, holistic approach to client services. Whether supporting contacts and clients with their own fundraising activities, sponsoring local events, collaborating with local organisations or offering training sessions to our staff around mental health, we work to embody compassion both in our workplace and beyond.”
The presentation for this event took place on the 3 October - a certificate was presented to Kim by the Mayor.
