Leading the Way: Thompson Smith and Puxon Celebrate Legal 500 Results

Thompson Smith and Puxon (TSP), a pre-eminent law firm with strategically located offices in Colchester and Clacton, is pleased to announce a record-breaking year in the latest Legal 500 rankings.

The firm received commendations across nine distinct practice areas, marking a milestone in its history of legal excellence. In addition, four Directors are recognised as Leading Individuals and three Lawyers are named as Next Generation Partners.

TSP Directors, Mary Anne Fedeyko, Fiona Ashworth, Jolyon Berry and Stephen Firmin, are all ranked as Leading Individuals in their respective practice areas.

Robert Ashworth, Kerry Addison and Nicola Healy are all recognised as Next Generation Partners. 

TSP’s Corporate and Commercial “highly skilled” team, led by Mary Anne Fedeyko, have once again achieved an excellent tier 2 ranking. Their expertise in complex reorganisation and demergers has been credited; their strong connections to the healthcare and agricultural sector are also noted. Nicola Rout adds niche practice areas to the department with her expertise in insolvency law as well as charity work.

Stephen Firmin, a ‘five-star’ Solicitor, enters the Legal 500 rankings as a Leading Individual in 2024. Leading the Commercial Property department, Stephen, along with Kerry Addison have been credited for their high level of experience and ability to provide practical solutions to their clients. Commercial Property has risen to a tier 2 position in the latest rankings, demonstrating their commitment to client service and excellence.

Family Law has been recognised in this year’s rankings with well-reputed practice head, Louise Margiotta leading the department. Louise’s 26 years of experience strengthens the department who offer compassionate and considered advice to separating couples facing complex financial and children disputes.

Jolyon Berry is once again recognised as a standout Employment Law specialist. Jolyon is named as a Leading Individual and continues to keep his employment department ranked as ‘top tier’. Together with assistance from Grace Smyth and Sam Welham, the department is equipped to handle a full array of employment matters for corporates and individuals.

The ‘vibrant and forward thinking’ Commercial Litigation department has maintained their position in the Legal 500. Andrew Breckenridge along with Laura-Pauline Adcock-Jones and Katie Latham are named as key solicitors in this department who offer a broad range of services to help resolve commercial disputes.

The Clinical Negligence department have been praised for their ‘excellent knowledge and passion for securing the best results for their clients’. The team, led by Steve Webb, handle critical medical negligence cases. Hasina Choudhury, who specialises in spinal injury, brain injury and wrongful birth claims is 'thorough and compassionate'; Stacey Anderson is also named in the rankings, and noted for dealing with cases including birthing injuries, spinal and brain injuries and wrongful birth claims.

TSP’s Personal Injury department are a long-established division of the firm who handle high-value accident claims, led by Steve Webb, an APIL accredited senior litigator and tenacious lawyer who strives to secure the best possible result for clients. Sam Welham is also named in the Legal 500 for his expertise on issues surrounding work-related stress and psychiatric injury.

The ‘formidable Agriculture & Estates practice’ at TSP is led by Stephen Firmin, named a Leading Individual in the latest Legal 500 listings. The department are widely recognised by the professional and farming community as trusted leaders in agricultural law. Kerry Addison, Fiona Ashworth, Mary Anne Fedeyko and Robert Ashworth are notable names in the Agriculture and Estates rankings.

TSP’s Tax, Trusts & Probate team have been recommended once again for their significant experience in tax and estate planning work. Advising a variety of clients including business owners, agricultural clients, families and high-net-worth clients, Fiona Ashworth is noted as providing a “stand-out service’ and is also a Leading Individual, whilst both Robert Ashworth and Nicola Healy are named as Next Generation Partners.
