Kim Huggins wins Lawrence Walker Award

We are delighted to announce that Specialist Clinical Negligence Solicitor, Kim Huggins, has taken home a trophy celebrating her status as a ‘Colchester Legend’ at the Lawrence Walker Awards 2024.

Only a few weeks after Thompson Smith and Puxon was recognised as a Compassionate Champion by Compassionate Communities UK, Kim has won a Lawrence Walker Award, an accolade which recognises and celebrates individuals that have made outstanding contributions in cancer care and support in the local community. The awards honour those who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, empathy and impact in supporting ethnic minority communities across the UK.

Held at the Colchester City Church, this special event combined the celebration of community heroes with crucial education on cancer awareness, prevention and support. The awards provided an opportunity for attendees to engage in discussions which enabled them to gain a deeper understanding of cancer care as well as a chance to take proactive steps to monitor their health and learn about ways to prevent the onset of health issues. There was also information available from local organisations and charities offering resources as well as support services linked to cancer care, mental health and well-being

Kim Huggins, Specialist Clinical Negligence Solicitor, commented: “It is an honour to receive the Lawrence Walker ‘Colchester Legend’ 2024 award. It is important to recognise the existing support network within the Colchester community for those impacted by cancer and to continue to build on that so that everyone has the opportunity to know about, and access, the much needed services for cancer patients, survivors and their families. It has been extremely moving to hear the stories and experiences of individuals whose lives have been impacted by this terrible disease and to learn of current cancer issues, treatments, investigations, charities and support hubs which bring some hope to those on this journey. It is important to recognise, and remember the positive impact the late Lawrence Walker had, and still has, in the community. I would like to thank African Families in the UK (AFiUK) for a wonderful day and for providing me with such a special award”

CEO Sean Stuttaford concluded: “We are incredibly proud to see Kim win a Lawrence Walker Award, a tribute designed to honour individuals who make a tangible difference in their communities. Kim’s dedication to supporting her clients and local community and raising awareness about cancer care exemplifies the values we hold dear at our firm.”

The awards ceremony took place at 20-23 Colchester City Church, CO1 1LG on 22 October.
