Maternity and Childbirth
There are 700,000 pregnancies in the UK each year. For expectant parents it is an exciting time but, particularly for mum to be, it can also be a very nervous time, and a daunting prospect.
Statistics published in March 2013 show that:
- The number of women giving birth is increasing year on year
- As a percentage there is an increasing number of “elective” caesarean sections being performed
- An increasing percentage of women are having their labour induced
- The number of assisted deliveries is also growing as a percentage
All of this means that the maternity services in England and Wales are under increasing pressure and unfortunately medical accidents which cause harm to mother and / or baby are more likely to happen.
