Hoisting Error
The use of hoists has become an integral part of delivering health and social care services, particularly in care homes.
People can fall during hoisting and be injured for a number of reasons, such as:
- Wrong size of sling used for the size of the person
- Wrong type of hoist used for a specific task
- Using the wrong sling and hoist together
- Poor maintenance of equipment
- Being left unattended in a hoist or in a position in which the patient might be at risk
- The hoist overturning
- Not using the safety harness
