With continued recommendations in nine practice areas, the Legal 500 has once again recognised and confirmed Thompson Smith and Puxon’s (TSP) ongoing commitment to "outstanding" and "impressive" service delivery. Four directors, Mary Anne Fedeyko, Richard Porter, Fiona Ashworth and Jolyon Berry are highlighted as Leading Individuals with Kerry Addison a Next Generation Partner. TSP’s Corporate and Commercial team,  highlighted for "exceeding all expectations”, is once again amongst the top three in Colchester for this practice area and team leader Mary Anne Fedeyko is noted for her "practical commercial approach". The team is "adept at handling the full scope of corporate matters including M&A, disposals and distribution agreements."

The firm’s Employment practice, once again rated in the Top Tier in Essex, is led by the "outstanding" Richard Porter, who is noted for his prowess on business reorganisations and termination of contracts. Jolyon Berry, who joined TSP at the beginning of 2019, has added further heavy-weight support for TSP’s clients, and, together, Leading Individuals, Richard and Jolyon, offer employers guidance on all aspects of Employment Law.

The firm’s Dispute Resolution team, whose focus includes "a broad range of civil and commercial disputes", is led by "seasoned litigator" Sharon Auton and contentious probate matters are a particularly strong generator of work for the team.

In Commercial Property Stephen Firmin and Kerry Addison are "both outstanding" and "skilled in managing complex matters related to property disposals and development". Kerry is praised for her technical excellence and hands-on and practical approach. Both are Fellows of the Agricultural Law Association and also recommended for their agricultural work with one testimonial noting that the team "have a great breadth of experience across various legal disciplines that are needed to support farming families." Indeed, "Standout practitioner" Fiona Ashworth who leads the "impressive" Wills and Estates team "understands the sensitivity of dealing with estates and her farming knowledge is very helpful when handling agricultural matters."

Fiona’s team is also "very well versed in dealing with complex matters" and according to one testimonial, offer "a thoroughly professional service, prompt response time and unswerving commitment to providing comprehensive understanding."

Senior Partner, Mary Anne Fedeyko says “In addition to our recommendations in Wills and Estates, the "dedicated and courteous" Clinical Negligence, "great" Personal Injury and "impressive" Family teams are also recommended. Our private client teams are knowledgeable and empathetic and it is pleasing that the Legal 500 continue to recognise not only their excellence in service delivery, but also the strength and depth of talented lawyers that we have at TSP.

Our business services team continues to flourish and perform strongly. We provide a holistic service for our business clients and work seamlessly across practice groups, priding ourselves on our responsive, problem-solving approach. We put understanding our clients’ needs, and how the legal advice we deliver to them fits the manner in which their businesses operate, at the heart of everything we do."

What is the Legal 500? Primarily a reference tool for buyers of legal services, the Legal 500 has developed over the past 25 years into the largest and most in depth survey of the UK legal market, with researchers analysing the practices of more than 1,000 law firms across the UK.

Understanding the firms themselves is only one part of the research undertaken by the Legal 500 teams. Ultimately it is client opinion that matters. Firms submit details of client referees to the researchers and these are taken up and form a vital component of a firm’s evaluation.
