Environmental, Social and Governance

At Thompson Smith and Puxon, our commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles is at the heart of everything we do. We believe in driving positive change not just for our clients, but our colleagues, communities and the world around us.

Our ESG approach incorporates everything from responsible business practices, to diversity, equity and inclusivity. We are dedicated to helping businesses thrive ethically and responsibly.

By staying ahead of regulatory developments and industry trends, we empower our clients to navigate the evolving business landscape with confidence. Read on to find out about the Corporate Social Responsibility matters we are involved in, in our local communities and beyond.

The Colchester Community

With a long history of being part of the Colchester community (TSP was established in Colchester back in 1879) we are proud to be a part of the city’s exciting development and growth plans.

There are a number of projects which will be happening in Colchester over the next five years - all targeted towards making Colchester a better place to work, live and visit.

As part of TSP’s role in supporting the exciting growth plans in Colchester, we have confirmed our role as headline sponsor for Colchester Business Awards which will take place in June 2024. The awards are a great opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate business excellence in Colchester' City Centre. You can see more about the awards here.

There are many upcoming opportunities for both individuals and businesses to benefit from both business and community grants, as well as support for agricultural projects and developments. As a firm embedded in the city, we will always support our clients and contacts to get involved and make sure they benefit from any opportunities on offer. We think that the road ahead for Colchester as a city is full of promise and opportunity.

TSP in the Community

The team at TSP is very active in the Colchester and wider Essex community – we regularly attend the Colchester Business Lunch Club and Essex Chamber of Commerce events, as well as being active members of The Essex Agricultural Society, Essex Young Farmers and the CLA. Our agricultural specialists can always be found at the key regional events, including the Suffolk and Tendring Shows.

As well as being involved in the business side of Colchester, TSP is deeply committed to supporting the community through various fundraising events and initiatives.

Our Social Committee has a busy schedule of events to aid different charities – some examples across the year include the Macmillan Coffee and Cake morning, The Brantham Church Teddy Bear Parachute Jump, Race 4 Business, Bake for Dementia and Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children. Instead of traditional Christmas cards, TSP Directors and staff donate to the local foodbank in Colchester.  The firm also supports team members who have a particular affiliation with a charity – either because it’s local to them or it holds special meaning to them. Our Head of Employment, Jolyon Berry, for example, is supported by the firm in his “Wombles of Wivenhoe” Charity which was set up to support community litter picking groups and to educate local primary schools on environmental issues.

We're enthusiastic about staff fundraising efforts, supporting events like Sudbury to the Sea, and the Pier-to-Pier walk, benefiting various charities like the Tom Bowdidge Foundation, Little Haven’s Hospice, and St Helena Hospice. We support our local Rotary Clubs in both Clacton and Colchester by sponsoring their community activities and getting involved where we can.
